Jim Semonik
This is a completely live, interactive sit-down with the incredible Jim Semonik. Come to the virtual hang and bring any questions you might have—we’ll answer them live on the stream.
Jim Semonik is a true force in the goth/industrial scene—an artist, promoter, label owner, and survivor whose passion has shaped the underground music world for decades. From his early days as a DJ and event promoter in Pittsburgh to fronting electro-industrial acts like Red Lokust and Rein[Forced], Jim has been instrumental in elevating dark electronic music, both locally and globally.
As the founder of Distortion Productions, Jim has spent over 20 years championing goth, industrial, EBM, and synth-driven acts, helping to bring underground artists into the spotlight. He’s hosted over 200 shows, working with legendary acts such as VNV Nation, Front Line Assembly, KMFDM, and The Crüxshadows, all while cultivating a fiercely dedicated community of fans and musicians.
Beyond music, Jim’s story is one of resilience and giving back. After surviving a stage 3 colorectal cancer diagnosis in 2008, he co-created the Electronic Saviors: Industrial Music to Cure Cancer compilations, which have raised over $70,000 for cancer research and charities. His dedication to both the music and the people who make it is what makes him such a vital and beloved figure in the scene.
When he’s not shaping the future of industrial music, you might find Jim geeking out over comics, expanding his massive action figure collection, or enjoying Taco Tuesdays with his partner-in-crime, Emily.
Come hang with us as we dive into Jim’s journey—from his early inspirations to his impact on the scene, life on the road, and what’s next in his ever-evolving musical adventure.
