Touring outside the United States

Tourouter works for bands based anywhere and for runs that cross borders: a UK band doing Europe, an Australian band doing the US, a Canadian band doing both sides of the border. This guide covers what to set up when a tour leaves home, and it is honest about the few things that are still US only.

You do not need a US phone number, or any phone number, to create an account.

Add a phone number for texts

A phone number is only needed if you want day sheets by text, or want to send invitations by text. Email works without one.

Mobile numbers in these countries can receive texts from Tourouter: the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Guernsey, Jersey, the Isle of Man, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Mexico.

Add your number in your profile and confirm it with the code we text you. Enter it with its country, and Tourouter shows it in the standard international format, like +44 7700 900123.

Put shows abroad on the map

Venues, hotels and addresses work anywhere Google Maps does. Search for the venue by name and pick it, and Tourouter fills in the address, the postal code, the country and the local time zone.

When you add a date by hand, set its country. The state field takes any region or province, not only US states. When you import a tour from a flyer or PDF, each date in the draft has its own Country field to check before you create the tour. See Import dates from a photo, PDF or list.

Drive times between stops are worked out anywhere Google has road data. Tourouter does not plan around border crossings or ferries, so add time for those yourself as a schedule item.

Times are always local

Every time in Tourouter is the local time of the place it happens. A load in at 5:00 PM in Berlin reads 5:00 PM, whether you open the app in Berlin, London or Los Angeles.

• Each date takes its time zone from its venue, or from its hotel on a day without a show.
• On the phone, a drive or flight that crosses a time zone says so, like Clocks move forward 1 hr.
• The morning day sheet goes out in the first hour of the day in that date’s local time.

Day sheets across borders

• By email: everyone on the day sheet list gets it by email, in every country.
• By text: anyone with a mobile number from the countries above gets it by text as well.
• Push notifications: anyone with the app gets pushes about changes, wherever they are.
